Type 2 Diabetes Exercise Prevention Program
THE SILENT KILLER
Did you know that 1 in 4 Victorian adults have type 2 diabetes? And many of them never find out until it’s sometimes TOO LATE!
The problem is that many people don’t even know they are at risk.
Chances are that if you’re not at risk then your friend, spouse or colleague may be.
Should you be alarmed?
YES! Diabetes is Australia’s fastest growing chronic disease.
What you may not know is that people with diabetes are 4x more likely to develop heart disease.
What are the warning signs of diabetes?
- You’re overweight
- You’re over 40 years old
- You eat too many sugary and fatty foods
- You lead a sedentary lifestyle
- You have a family history of diabetes
If you have any of the above risk factors then you may be at risk and it’s time to take action.
Unless timely action is taken, the long term complication of diabetes includes blindness, limb amputation and heart attack..
GOOD NEWS: Type 2 Diabetes is preventable IF you address the causes in time!
Poor lifestyle choices cause a defect in insulin action / production which creates a perfect environment for Type 2 Diabetes and other diseases.
If you’re guilty of leading a sedentary lifestyle, indulging in artery-clogging fatty foods, and not taking care of yourself like you should then you’re at risk.
The REALITY is that if you are at risk then this problem won’t go away, it will only worsen unless you are proactive and take action now.

Case study:
A client was recently referred to our Diabetes Program after being diagnosed with pre- diabetes by his GP. Since his referral the client has completed two lots of our 8- week program as well as 2 individual sessions (under the Medicare funded EPC program).
In the initial assessment it was found that the client also had high blood pressure and high cholesterol and had recently started a home exercise program consisting of walking and riding an exercise bike. Goals were set with the client which included improving blood glucose levels, decreasing cholesterol and waist circumference, and increasing muscle mass.
The client was a very active participant in our group programs, completing his own research on diabetes and providing some very valuable information to other members in the group. He also modified his diet and followed a eating plan to accompany his home exercise program.
After participating in the program for 16 weeks the client achieved exceptional results which included losing 13kgs, decreasing his waist circumference by over 15cms and reducing his blood pressure. The client also improved his cardiovascular fitness from average to excellent and maintained blood glucose readings within a normal range. Furthermore the client made positive changes to his body composition which included losing over 10% of body fat and increasing muscle mass by over 7%.
The client was extremely motivated to prevent the onset of diabetes and plans to keep improving his muscle mass to ensure he maintains normal blood glucose levels.
