If you are looking for help in making healthier food choices when shopping, then you might find this newly released iPhone app will be extremely useful.
Developed in Australia by The George Institute for Global Health, Foodswitch allows you to scan the barcode of food packages using your iPhone, which will then give you nutritional information for that food product based on the Traffic Light System. The Traffic Light System is a simple way to assess the nutritional value of foods using the green, yellow and red colours of the traffic lights. ‘Green lights’ indicate healthy levels of specific food components (fats, saturated fats, sugars, salt, and kilojoules of energy) – so eat more ‘green light foods.
You can download this useful tool for free through the iTunes Store.
Remember – for optimal health and wellbeing, choose more green light foods!
